eHow Experience: Day 19 - Google AdSense Update

In my Day 17 post about eHow I discussed how pleased I was to see that four people had signed up for my blog and in my Day 9 post I promised to keep you updated on my Google AdSense progress.

Unfortunately I've been told that Google Adsense policies forbid people from discussing how much money they make and even how many people visit their sites.

I have found some information online that supports this but most of it is pretty dated and none of it is directly from Google.

I'll continue searching and if anyone finds anything official that either confirms or denies that Google forbids discussing AdSense income please let me know.

In the meantime I'll have to play this conservatively and err on the side of cautiousness by keeping my Google AdSense statistics to myself (for now).

  1. I have been using adsense for a long time and have it on over 70 websites. I never did find out what one click is worth (i'm guessing 3 cents) but they do tell me in various reports available to me what channels (sites) had the most adsense hits and earnings per site. I dont recall Google ever telling me not to discuss my earnings because no one website is alike in terms of traffic or content.

  2. I've seen many sites and blogs that discuss (brag about) their google earnings and some even display screen shots right from their adsense account so I doubt that is a rule breaker.

  3. Bestmommy,

Thanks for the comment. While I agree that it's "probably" not a rule breaker I'm going to err on the side of cautiousness (for now anyway).

If you Google around you might find varying opinions on Google's acceptance of publishing earnings (I did).

I agree that there are plenty of (seemingly) reputable websites publishing AdSense information but I would also point out that there are plenty of sites with pornography and other content (gambling, alcohol, etc.) that's banned under the AdSense policies that are currently running Google AdSense. The consensus in online forums is that it's only a matter of time until Google sweeps out the perpertrators ... however sometimes it's later rather than sooner.

As an aside I'd like to remind everyone that even "screen shots" can be manipulated and that you should take everything with a grain of salt.
